Banzai Charge

We all know this renowned story of that very famous Japanese strategy in war where Japanese soldiers in WW2 charged forward with such ferocity and rage with no regard for their own lives- or the enemy's life, for that matter.
This was called the banzai charge because they often screamed the word "banzai" as they ran towards enemy soldiers.

Just one thing, though. Recently, I have learnt that they don't charge blindly in rage or without any cover.
Banzai charges were often heavily defended by mortars and machine guns.

And not every Japanese officer or general liked the idea of a banzai charge and they were often only seen as a last stand.
Banzai charges were believed to be a last ditch effort, as some say.

One example of a Japanese general who didn't agree with this strategy of war was- General Kuribayashi.
Unfortunately, some of his officers did not think the same as him.
