Lost species
Barbary Lion-
Native to North Africa and Egypt since around 100,000 years ago. Their closest relative is the Asiatic lion so PLEASE let's take care of this one.
Killed by hunting and bounties placed on them for trophies, and the spread of firearms.
Last seen in the 1960s when hunting was still prevalent. They are now locally extinct.
Auroch-
Native to the Near East (around the Middle East) and migrated to Europe, Asia and India. They are the ancestors of the humped cattle in India and other wild domestic cattle. It first appeared in the Chibanian era (or Middle Pleistocene) which was around (770,000-129,000 years ago)
They migrated to Europe via the Balkans and the Mediterranean coast and made a large impact on Germanic languages which in turn, affected the English language.
The name "Auroch" came from the word "aurochsen" which was a variant of the Germanic "ochsen" similar to the English word "oxen" and "ox."
During the Holocene (the current era), these creatures were killed by hunting and habitat loss. The last auroch died in Jaktorów forest in Poland in 1627.
