The U.S made a F-15 ("Celestial Eagle"), piloted by Major "Doug" Pearson to shoot down an American research satellite in a bold and brave test as it was a a feat that was first achieved and was made possible with American machinery. 
A visual statement that sent ripples to the Soviets as it was during the Cold War.
