The Man Who Refused To Destroy the World

During the Bay of Pigs incident in Cuba (Kennedy-Khruschev Cold War era), when tensions were already at dangerous heights, a Soviet nuclear submarine heard a shot above the waters and assumed the worst had happened.
As a precaution, they were planning on launching the nuclear missiles from the submarine, an action that would most definitely start a nuclear war and the potential end of the known world.

Every commanding officer of that submarine put their keys in to activate the launch sequence. All but one man- Vasili Arkhipov.

This man heroically refused to complete the sequence and we can learn a lot from men like him. When you go to war or if you go to war, remember that your fight isn't with the thousands, millions and even billions of innocent men, women, children, animals and birds that have nothing to do with your little quarrel.

Remember to choose peace. Be a hero.
