The Soviet-Afghan War (of the 1980s)

 



During the last decades of the Soviet Union, they sent and deployed troops to stabilise the communist government in the region of Afghanistan.

The Soviets had expected this war to be a push-over and an easy fight- but, it turned out to be disastrous for the Soviet Union.
Some people would even say that this was like Vietnam for the Soviets.
